SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. (APRIL. 27, 2021) – Big Climb New Jersey is virtually climbing 524 steps to raise money to find the cure for blood cancers.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society will be hosting its annual Big Climb New Jersey fundraising event on May 15th, 2021 to help fund the cure for every type of blood cancer.

For the second year in a row, Big Climb will be held virtually. All the proceeds will help fund the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s lifesaving blood cancer research that also provides free information and support services around the world.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is at the front of the line in the fight to cure cancer. Since their founding in 1949, LLS has invested about $1.3 billion in cancer research. This has led to many scientific breakthroughs in immunotherapy, personalized medicine that are improving and saving the lives of patients.

On May 15th, Climbers will virtually climb the 524 steps it takes to get to the top of Newark’s Gateway Center. There are different ways to do so:
- Climb: Climb the 524 steps in your home, apartment building or even at a park
- Strides: Take a three mile walk, jog, or run to simulate the ascent to the top of One Gateway Center.
- Step-Ups: Challenge yourself with 175 chair step-ups to accomplish the climb.
Anyone can participate. It’s free to register and participate in Big Climb. There is no fundraising commitment, but Climbers are challenged to fundraise for the LLS mission to find the cure for blood cancer. Participants have the option to join or create a team, or climb as a an individual.
There are many different rewards participants receive when they raise a certain amount of money. For example, Climbers who raise $100, will receive Big Climb’s official Big Climb Bib and Medal. Those who raise $250, will receive Big Climb’s official Big Climb Tech Tee. The more money you raised, the more rewards you will receive.

Since 2017, LLS helped advance 60 of the 71 blood cancer treatment options approved by the US Food and Drug Administration.
LLS is the largest funder of cutting edge research to find a cure for every type of blood cancer: leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, and other rare types of blood cancers. The LLS mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
